East Devon Radio Control Club
Affiliated to the BMFA
The East Devon Radio Control Club was formed in 1946 to bring together modellers interested in radio controlled Aircraft, Helicopters and Boats, and became affiliated to the BMFA in 1999. Our Membership year on year tends to fluctuate around 150 to 160 fully paid up members including a few juniors and has the largest membership in the Southwest Area and is one of the largest in Britain. The Club is fortunate in having the use of a flying site on Woodbury Common, approximately 400 yards from Four Firs Cross roads on the road to Yettington in Glorious Devon. There are very few restrictions on flying times on 365 days a year - Sunday morning is Club morning. The Club has a training scheme for beginners:- The subsequent flying tuition from our experienced instructors will culminate with taking the BMFA 'A' Certificate. Tuition normally takes place on a Sunday morning, but with prior arrangement with the instructor, any other time that is convenient to both is possible. Safety is very much encouraged. Glider towing is now very popular and there are a number of slope soaring enthusiasts who make frequent trips to the local hills. Club meetings are held at the Maltsters Inn, Woodbury, Nr. Exeter, at 8pm on the last Wednesday of each month from September to May. Club competitions are held during the summer months. Flying Times :- 10.00 till dusk Sun-Fri, 10.00 till 14.00 Sat/Bank Holidays, a "Peg On" system operates. All personnel who fly an aircraft from the site are to have BMFA Insurance. Temporary Membership which covers BMFA membership is £5 for 30 days contact Jon Mock. A minimum of 2 personnel are required at any time on the site for flying to take place:- 1 Safety Marshall, 1 Flyer. So if you are visiting Devon, pay us a visit and have a fly. You will be most welcome. |
